Home Builders Association of Chester and Delaware Counties

Community Service Committee

The HBA’s tag line, “Building Better Communities Together,” has taken on new meaning in recent years. In addition to our organization’s important work in partnering with municipalities, agencies and each other to make the building industry better, the Community Service Committee has invested itself in making life a bit better for those less fortunate than our members.   Since the Community Service Committee was taken under the wing of the SMC, that group has grown both in the number of members active in its programs and the causes that it serves.

Calendar of Community Service Efforts

October/November 2009

Coat Drive

The Salvation Army Coat Drive, held from October 14-26th, was a tremendous success. This year more than 500 coats as well as several hundreds of dollars in cash donations were collected to help the men, women and children in need this winter!

November 2009

Shelter Drive

Toiletries will be collected at our November General Membership meeting for The Salvation Army Women’s and Men’s Homeless Shelter.  A detailed list of items needed will be published as the event gets closer.

Food Drive

Last year’s Annual Salvation Army Food Drive was a success, and we are looking to raise the bar this year. The number of people who need help has doubled. We are requesting that our members collect non-perishable food at their companies and drop off their donations at the November General Membership Meeting.

December 2009

Toy Drive

Toys will be collected at our Annual Holiday Party in December for distribution by City Team Ministries in Chester.

McDonalds Gift Cards

Also in December, the HBA will be collecting McDonald’s $5 gift cards for the Salvation Army Children’s Holiday party.

Past Community Service Efforts

Fire Victims Drive

Coatesville Fire Victims Drive from January 30th through February 6th. The HBA collected toiletries, food, children’s items, linens, and cash contributions.

Feed the Hungry

The Salvation Army helps those who are hungry by providing free meals. The demand for meals doubled in the last year. HBA members signed up to serve meals March weeknights at The Salvation Army’s West Chester Kitchen.

Used Verizon cell phones and gift cards for food and supplies were collected at this General Membership meeting.
