Local New Home Sales Showing Strength

West Chester, PA- Members of the Home Builders Association of Chester and Delaware Counties, (HBA) are seeing increased sales in the New Year.

While some areas across the country are being hit by a down turn in the market, South Eastern PA appears poised for a rebound. Several builders in both Chester and Delaware Counties have had better than expected sales in the January and February months. “This spark in sales is just another indication that the national housing market does not dictate the regional market.” said Michael McGee, Executive Vice President of the HBA.

Vaughan and Sautter Builders, of Wayne PA, opened its new community Andover, located at routes 352 and 926, on February 2 with over 150 people coming through, and accepted seven deposits. “The opening exceeded our expectations, we had people coming out of the woodwork,” said Carl Becht, vice president of sales. “I think the public realizes this is a good time to buy, there is definitely activity in the market.”

According to Mike Murphy Jr., vice president of Murphy Homes, the public needs to know the housing market in Delaware and Chester counties is still doing well. “We sold four houses in January. We are seeing good traffic but more importantly we are selling houses, and that’s what consumers need to know.”

Another local builder, Bill Mullray of Mullray Builders, is having success in Delaware County “We have seen good traffic at our Deer Crossing and Bethel Church communities, and sold five homes in January making it our best sales month since January 2006,” said Mullray, “We are currently working on two more contracts and hope to be up to seven sales by the end of February.”

HBA President David D’Agostino notes, “Consumers have returned to the fundamentals. They recognize there are great buying opportunities and low mortgage rates. Most importantly they see their house first as a home, and look for long term appreciation as opposed to the dramatic gains over the past couple of years.”

The Home Builders Association of Chester and Delaware Counties (HBA) is a professional trade organization comprised of more than 450 companies involved in every aspect of the new home construction process. The HBA advocates for public policy initiatives and sustainable building techniques that balance the need for strong economic growth and environmental protection. The HBA is dedicated to providing and protecting the American dream of home ownership for current and future generations.
